Police are reminding the community of the dangers of drink driving, after a woman was intercepted under the influence in Jericho last night.
Around 5:30pm, police received several reports of a Silver Toyota Prado travelling dangerously on the Midland Highway at Bagdad, swerving across the road and narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic, before striking a traffic island. The vehicle continued travelling North.
The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old woman from Rokeby, was intercepted by police and taken into custody. She recorded a breath analysis reading of 0.166, more than 3 times the prescribed legal limit.
The woman has been charged with multiple offences including driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence, exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and having an un-restrained child in the vehicle. She will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
1/C Constable Leek said “This driver’s behaviour is concerning, it put themselves and others in danger, and risked the life of the 3-year-old child who was in the vehicle at the time.
“Alcohol is one of the ‘Fatal Five’ contributors to serious and fatal crashes and it was very fortunate on this occasion that no one was injured or killed.”
Police would like to thank the public for their assistance and are seeking anyone who may have dash cam footage of the vehicle around the time to come forward. Of particular interest is the driver of a truck travelling south on the Midland Highway at Jericho at the time the woman was overtaking dangerously.
