Woman in court after biting police officer in Pyrmont

A woman will face court today after she allegedly bit a police officer while being arrested for possessing a knife in the Sydney CBD yesterday.

About 7.30am (Monday 18 May 2020), police from Sydney City Police Area Command attended an underground carpark in Harris Street, Ultimo and removed a woman after receiving a complaint about her sleeping at that location.

At 11.30am police again attended the carpark following reports the same woman had returned.

As police approached her, they noticed she was allegedly in possession of a knife and was informed she was under arrest.

Police will allege she lunged towards them and a struggle commenced, where she has bitten one of the officers on the arm and attempted to bite the other constable.

The woman was eventually arrested with the assistance of further police and she was taken to Day Street Police Station.

She was charged with enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, custody of knife in public place, resist officer in execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty (x2) and refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14.

She was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 19 May 2020).

The injured constable was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and treated for a bite mark to her upper arm.
