Woman injured jumping from window after domestic assault at Bankstown, NSW

A woman has been taken to hospital after jumping from a window to escape an alleged domestic assault in Bankstown.

About 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 June 2020), emergency services were called to Sir Joseph Banks Street after reports a 34-year-old woman had jumped from a second-floor unit window after being assaulted.

Police will allege a man, known to the woman, assaulted and choked her, causing her to lose consciousness. It’s further alleged the man locked her in a bedroom, before she managed to escape by jumping out a window.

Police were called; however, the man had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident and, following inquiries, arrested a 29-year-old man a short time later.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences; including:

– assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV);

– intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV),

– take/detain person w/I to obtain advantage (DV), and

– dishonestly obtain financial advantage and contravene prohibited/restriction in AVO.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 18 June 2020).

The woman was taken to hospital where she received treatment for a fractured vertebrae, along with bruising and swelling.
