Woman rescued more than 17 hours after crash near Narooma, NSW

A woman has been rescued more than 17 hours after a single-vehicle crash on the state’s South Coast yesterday.

While travelling between Moruya and Wallaga Lake, a Holden Trax SUV has left the roadway and crashed into water sometime after 11pm on Wednesday (5 June 2019), trapping the female driver inside.

Just before 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday 6 June 2019), the trapped woman regained consciousness and was able to alert a relative; however, was unable to provide a location.

Officers from South Coast Police District commenced a search operation to locate the woman, with the assistance of NSW Ambulance, Fire & Rescue NSW, Moruya State Emergency Services (SES), Narooma Volunteer Rescue Association, and the Dalmeny Rural Fire Service, and have used the mobile phone system to identify a potential location.

Within 20 minutes, police attended the Princes Highway at Kianga and located the Holden down an embankment, overturned in Kianga Creek.

The 67-year-old woman was rescued from the vehicle and treated for suspected fractures and exposure.

She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.
