Pedestrians and drivers will soon experience a safer travel along Homestead Drive in Flagstone.
Work has commenced on a $480,000 project to improve lighting on the roadway between Coachwood and Wild Mint Drives, which includes access to Flagstone’s growing shopping centre precinct and local schools.
Energy efficient LED lighting, which Council can monitor remotely, will be installed as part of the project.
The lighting will complement recent footpath works funded by Logan City Council.
The Federal Government contributed half of the cost of the project, through the Building Better Regions Fund program.
Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said the project would ensure the Flagstone community was better connected for the future.
“By upgrading lighting, we’re encouraging cycling, walking, running and the use of these spaces – particularly where footpath upgrades have taken place,” Mr Buchholz said.
“But this is also about improving safety of local roads, this will improve line of sight and assist motorists with navigating the area.”
It is expected the lights will be switched on in early June.
Design and planning works will soon be underway for stage 2 of the project, which would see road lighting extended to the Bushman Drive roundabout.
