Environment Minister Reece Whitby today turned the first sod on a $7 million tyre recycling facility in the Jandakot Airport Industrial Estate.
The Complete Tyre Solutions facility will accommodate equipment required to process passenger, car, truck, industrial construction, and quarry tyres into 3mm crumb rubber. The crumb rubber will be produced to specification for use in the Western Australia asphalt and spray seal industry.
The project will benefit WA’s environment, boost the economy, and create jobs. It is part of the $20 million joint Commonwealth and State Government funding under the Recycling Modernisation Fund.
With an annual processing capability of more than 9000 tonnes, the project will help WA manage the impacts of the ban on exporting waste tyres.
Construction on the Jandakot site is set to begin in weeks.
