Works delayed in Lords Place South

Orange Council

Wet weather has delayed planned excavation works in Lords Place south, but Council hopes to recommence works next week.

Orange City Council’s Director of Technical Services Ian Greenham says rain has filled excavation pits with water, these pits have been secured and Council will be testing the air and water in the pits following routine analysis showing the presence of hydrocarbons.

“Fuel, oil and road tar are examples of hydrocarbons,” Mr Greenham said.

“To ensure we meet our work, health, and safety; and environmental obligations we are undertaking testing of air and water in the pits.

“We want to assure businesses and the community that we don’t believe there is any risk, particularly with the damp conditions,” he said.

Samples will be taken to Sydney for testing and are anticipated to be back by the end of the week.

“The safety of our people and community comes first.”

“We apologise for the delays caused but look forward to recommencing works next week.”

Council is working hard to deliver the first phase of the project by December to minimise the impact on businesses.
