Works to be undertaken at Griffith City Pound and Rehoming Centre

Griffith City Council would like to advise that the Griffith City Pound and Rehoming Centre will be undertaking maintenance works week commencing Monday December 9.

Chairperson of the Griffith City Pound and Rehoming Centre Working Group, Councillor Doug Curran said that during the works the out of hours drop off area will be unavailable.

“It is essential to close the out of hours animal drop off area in order to carry out the works required,” said Councillor Curran.

“During the works, the Facility will also be operating a reduced number of kennels.”

This is required in order to coat the walls and floors of the kennels with the sealant,” he added.

It is expected the works will take approximately 7 days, during which a sealant will be applied to the wall and floor surfaces.

“This sealant will assist in disease control by making the current concrete surface less pervious,” said Councillor Curran.

“The safety and wellbeing of animals who unfortunately find their way into the facility is a priority for us and these works will assist in making it a safer place.”

Council would like to remind pet owners that it is a requirement to microchip their companion animals, which includes cats and dogs, to ensure they can be easily reunited with their families should they become lost.

“While the out of hours area is inaccessible, we would ask that if you find an animal that you endeavour to keep it secure if it is safe to do so, and contact Rangers the next business day,” added Councillor Curran.
