Wyndham City will contribute $200,000 to help modernise a shopping centre in Hoppers Crossing.
Mayor Cr Josh Gilligan said Council approached the body corporate of Woodville Park Shopping Centre offering half of the funds needed to revamp the shopping centre to make the area more attractive and boost business at the centre.
“The body corporate has offered a further $100,000 and we also secured another $100,000 from the State Government’s Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal Fund,” Cr Gilligan said.
“The major refresh will include new landscaping, pedestrian crossings, lighting and artwork, to transform the outdated centre to a thriving retail and social hub that encourages residents to shop and dine locally.”
“We are committed to ensuring our established suburbs, such as Hoppers Crossing, are just as important as our newer ones.”
“I am proud that Council has helped secure investment in this project that will see Woodville Park Shopping Centre thrive once again, transforming it into an exciting activity centre for the whole community to enjoy.”
Future Focused Economy Holder Cr Walter Villagonzalo said the business community and residents would benefit from this revitalisation, which contributed to Council’s commitment to creating a more liveable City.
“This will be an important boost for small businesses during the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Cr Villagonzalo said.
Cr Gilligan said Council would like to see this model replicated at other small shopping centres across Wyndham in the coming years.
“I would like to thank the State Government and local business owners for working with us to help make this a reality,” Cr Gilligan said.
Council hopes to start the works in March 2021 and complete them by June 2021.
