Yanchep firefighters to get $914,000 of modern updates to fire station

  • Yanchep Fire Station will undergo significant renovations to improve facilities
  • Upgrade part of the McGowan Government’s COVID-19 recovery plan to support building and construction sectors
  • Yanchep Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service firefighters will have a new upgraded home for the 2021-22 bushfire season with $914,000 of renovations to start next year.

The fire station will have new ablutions, a tunic room, a breathing apparatus room, an office, a storeroom, a kitchen, a training room and a lounge room.

Nearly $500,000 has been provided through the State Government’s COVID-19 economic recovery plan.

Just over $424,000 will be contributed from the Emergency Services Levy to complete the refurbishments and extension.

Volunteer firefighters from Yanchep Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service played a crucial role during last December’s fires in Yanchep and Two Rocks.

The upgrades are part of a $60 million blitz to maintain or upgrade State assets including police and fire stations.

Approximately $7 million will be spent across the State as part of the recovery plan to improve Emergency Services facilities over two years.

As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:

“Volunteer firefighters, such as those from Yanchep Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, can greatly benefit from new fit-for-purpose and modern facilities.

“New or upgraded facilities can help attract more volunteers and give existing volunteers greater support, more training and office space, and more appropriate appliance areas.

“Last year’s fires in Yanchep and Two Rocks serve as an important reminder about how invaluable volunteers are to our emergency response.

“These major refurbishments will not only help these local volunteer firefighters thrive and grow into the future, they play a crucial role in helping the building and construction sector recover from the financial impacts of COVID-19.”

As stated by Butler MLA John Quigley:

“These local heroes are extremely deserving. Their work during the Yanchep bushfires was nothing short of immense.

“I am very proud to be part of the McGowan team which is delivering for our local fire stations, and very proud to stand alongside Minister Logan as he made the announcement.”
