Yarra City Council has been honoured with the Tidy Cities Award in the Education Category at Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Tidy Towns and Cities Sustainability Awards.

The award recognises the My Smart Garden program, a collaborative initiative across 11 Melbourne councils.

My Smart Garden provides free resources, advice, and workshops that help people to practice sustainable gardening, conserve water, reduce waste, heat and cool buildings, and improve habitat at their homes.

From small space and organic food growing to beekeeping and composting, our workshops cater to our diverse community, including renters and those with limited spaces.

The awards, spearheaded by Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria, celebrate community-led sustainability programs. It’s a testament to the collective efforts towards fostering a greener, more sustainable Yarra.

We extend our thanks to Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria for this recognition and remain committed to nurturing a culture of sustainability in Yarra.

Beyond the strides we’re making with the My Smart Garden program, we are currently developing our next Climate Emergency Plan, to replace the one that expires in 2024.

We want to hear from the Yarra community to understand your ideas and suggestions for climate action in Yarra. We’ll use the community’s feedback to inform the development of the Plan.

Visit Your Say Yarra to provide feedback by 9am on Monday 4 December 2023.
