  • Second stage of $20.6 million Yarralinka Primary School in Southern River opened
  • Another education election commitment delivered by the Cook Labor Government

The second stage of Yarralinka Primary School in Perth’s southern suburbs has been officially opened by the Cook Labor Government today.

The $13.5 million second stage of construction includes a covered assembly area, canteen and music room, three general teaching blocks – including one general teaching block with art and craft room, hard courts and cricket nets, an oval, along with additional parking for staff and parents.

The Southern River school first opened in 2021 for Kindergarten and Pre-primary students with the $7.15 million stage one facilities including an administration block, a teaching block with five classrooms for kindergarten and pre-primary students, library block, staff room, nature playground, and two car parks.

The school now accommodates for 540 students. It was designed by Silver Thomas Hanley | Architecture and built by Universal Constructions.

The new school was a 2017 election commitment, and part of the Cook Labor Government’s $1.5 billion school infrastructure program to deliver new and modern public schools.

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“We continue to build new schools in areas of demand to ensure all Western Australian students learn in outstanding facilities with every opportunity – regardless of where they live.

“Alongside several major upgrades, two new primary schools also opened this year to meet the needs of growing communities.”

As stated by Southern River MLA Terry Healy:

“I am very proud to deliver this very important election commitment for local families.

“This is an exciting time for the Yarralinka Primary School community to offer Southern River another high-quality education option in the area.”
