The ACT Government is giving young Canberrans the support they need to get job ready and start training, through the JobTrainer Employment Jumpstart program.
“We know young Canberrans need a strong base of knowledge, skills and capabilities to support them to make a successful transition into the world of work,” said Minister for Skills Chris Steel.
“The Jumpstart program delivers that while also providing an opportunity to address workforce shortages in several sectors across Canberra, by helping young people find out about, and connect with, in-demand skills.”
The pandemic highlighted the need for more accessible training to boost local skills across a range of workforces – from short courses to build entry-level, work-ready skills through to full qualifications.
The ACT Government is investing in four organisations to deliver this training in targeted ways, that can engage young people. The Jumpstart grants will support more than 220 training places in areas including construction, hospitality, community services, conservation and business.
Five organisations will share in $1.1 million to deliver the programs in 2022-23. The successful organisations include:
- Kulture Break – Creative Pathways to Employment ($237,613)
Young people who participate in the CPE initiative will be able to easily transition into an employment pathway through a guaranteed interview process, after participants complete the “Get job-ready BootCamp training”
- West Belconnen Joint Venture – SPARK 2022 ($240,010)
The SPARK 2022 project will see three separate programs delivered over 12 months that focus on the conservation and horticulture, general construction and hospitality sectors
- West Belconnen Joint Venture – SPARK 2023 ($248,419)
The SPARK 2023 project will see three separate programs delivered over nine months that focus on the civil construction, general construction, and hospitality sectors
- MARSS Australia Inc. – Building Communities ($168,433)
Building Communities is a one-year project that will support 12 participants from CALD backgrounds to complete a vocational qualification, undertake a work placement to gain practical experience in a community services organisation matched to their interests and go on to gain employment in the community services industry.
- JCE Positive Outcomes – Hospitality – From Immersion Training to Gainful Employment ($210,000)
Students in our hospitality training program will learn transferrable skills such as customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skills that they can use in other industries if they choose to move to another career later on.
“We are investing in young Canberrans to strengthen the contribution they can make to the growth of our economy and the capability of our workforce. This program will create more opportunities for them to find a great job now and into the future,” said Minister Steel.
Jumpstart is funded under the JobTrainer program, in partnership with the Australian Government.
