Youth Advisory Committee Shoalhaven is seeking new members

Young people with an interest in driving change and being a voice for their peers are invited to join the Shoalhaven Youth Advisory Committee.

Anyone aged 12 to 25 years are welcome to express their interest in joining the committee and develop skills in advocacy, leadership and public speaking.

This year, Council is partnering with not-for-profit advocacy group Sonder Youth to give committee members the opportunity to take part in the Changemakers Program to develop a ‘Change Project’ to tackle an issue that matters to them.

The Changemaker Program is designed by young people for young people. The program is a five-month leadership, social entrepreneurship and project management immersion experience. How good would this look on your resume.

Youth Advisory Committee has up to 18 student representatives, and 6 community youth representative members from across the Shoalhaven, who meet four times a year.

“This committee is a fantastic way for our young people to have their say about what’s important to them and making sure their voice is heard,” said Mayor Amanda Findley.

“It’s important that we continue to hear from a diversity of people about initiatives that will shape the future of our city,” Cr Findley said.

Members of the committee agree that it’s an inclusive and supportive environment and welcome new members.

“I feel capable of the change I want to create,” said Veronica Burt.

“I’m incredibly excited to bring new ideas to work on with the Youth Advisory Committee and broader community,” said Bridget Raftery.
