Youth apprehended – Property offending in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have apprehended three youths in relation to two separate attempts of stealing motorbikes from caravan parks in Alice Springs overnight.

At 2:20am police were called to a caravan park on Palm Circuit after the manager confronted three youths who were witnessed walking three stolen motorbikes out of the property.

On being confronted the youths dropped the bikes and fled the area.

Shortly after it is alleged the same three youths were confronted at a nearby caravan park after having unlawfully entered the property and were observed walking three stolen motorbikes out of the park.

On being confronted, the trio again dropped the bikes and fled the area.

Police conducted patrols in the area and identified and located two youths, aged 13 and 14-years-old at a location nearby. Strike Force Viper investigators identified the third youth, 15 year old male, who was later arrested at 7:50am.

All three youths are expected to charged each with two counts of Stealing and Trespass. The 13-year-old male will face additional charges of Unlawful Use of a motor vehicle, in relation to the theft of a vehicle from a carpark on Wednesday 8 June and police will allege that he was in breach of bail at the time of the offending.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Kent of Strike Force Viper urged Finke race competitors to secure their valuables.

“Unsecured vehicles, motorbikes or other property provides opportunistic offenders with easy pickings. We urge locals and visitors alike to ensure they have secured their property and keep valuables out of sight.”

Anyone with information which may assist with investigations is urged to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 10029965.
