Youth Services delivering to all ages online

During the COVID-19 pandemic, children and teens across Casey have continued to receive support from our Youth Counselling Team, however parents and carers may not realise that support is available to them also.

Throughout the pandemic, phone, online and face-to-face counselling has been offered to young people aged 10 to 25, along with regular information posted on Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 400 appointments have been made for phone and video counselling support. Face-to-face counselling is currently only available by referral.

However, Casey’s Youth Counselling Support Team Leader Mark Bekerman said parents and carers who are supporting young people in Casey may also benefit from talking to a counsellor, or accessing resources provided by the Youth Counselling team.

“We see counselling as an opportunity for people to talk about specific issues with a person who is a good listener, and who can help you to work on making changes and improving your wellbeing,” Mr Bekerman said.

“We also recognise that building the capacity of parents and caregivers, in turn supports our young people to live their best life and can improve the functioning of the whole family.

“We therefore offer support sessions to parents and carers of young people who are experiencing difficulties or when they are concerned about their child’s mental wellbeing.”

Accessing support is as easy as calling the intake line on 9792 7279. If phoning outside of business hours, you can leave a message and a team member will call back the next business day.
