Youth Week 2023: Putting you in picture

  • Events and activities that celebrate the contribution of young people taking place across WA
  • 41 State Government grants awarded to community organisations and local governments for Youth Week events
  • Youth Week WA 2023 runs from Friday 14 April – Friday 21 April

Youth Week 2023 has launched in Kalgoorlie-Boulder today, marking the start of the annual celebration of young people in communities across the State.

The projects are led by young people, for young people, with funding through the Youth Week WA grants program.

As part of today’s launch, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has partnered with local community organisations to deliver a range of activities and programs to promote and celebrate young people within the region.

These activities include an Opening Party, a Young Leaders Forum, and a presentation on the new youth precinct for the region.

The Young Leaders Forum, hosted by the City of Kalgoorlie, will provide an opportunity to hear the valuable perspectives of regional young people, and to participate in conversations about issues that matter to them most.

A range of other events such as yoga in the park, public art projects and a skate workshop will also take place in towns from Capel to Carnarvon.

The annual KickstART Festival, presented by Propel Youth Arts WA in partnership with the Department of Communities, offers an exciting schedule including a Festival Market Day on 15 April 2023 which will include workshops, performances, and talks. The festival is free for those aged 12-26 years.

The theme for Youth Week 2023 is ‘Becoming – with others we dream’. This year’s Youth Ambassadors are Amber Ugle-Hayward, 23, and Amy Astill, 21.

Amber is the first Aboriginal young person to be appointed as a Youth Week WA Ambassador and is a senior government worker.

Amy is a geology technician in the mining industry, a local Councillor with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and a Senior Coordinator in the WA Youth Parliament.

As stated by Youth Minister Simone McGurk:

“Young people make up almost a fifth of WA’s population and that number is growing. That’s why it’s so important for young people to make their voices heard on the issues that matter to them.

“What makes Youth Week so special is that the projects are designed and delivered by young people, for young people.

“There are so many opportunities to get involved with Youth Week WA events in your local community, no matter where you live.”
