Youth Minister Dave Kelly has launched the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival for 2020.
Presented by Propel Youth Arts WA, KickstART runs from April 17 to 24 and is the flagship event for Youth Week WA. This year it will offer over 70 free events including workshops, live performances, markets, exhibitions and talks for young people aged between 12 and 26 years.
Youth Week WA is the single largest annual celebration of young people on the Western Australian youth calendar, and this year will be the 10th KickstART Festival.
Events on offer will celebrate the artistry and background of WA’s best young artists and encourage young people to explore, try new things, meet inspirational people, build relationships with WA’s creative industries and, most importantly, connect with each other.
Workshops will be held on subjects as diverse as changemaking, song writing, dance, poetry and mental health.
Art exhibitions will display a diverse range of works including photography, street art and t-shirts.
KickstART gets underway on Saturday April 18 with the KickstART Market in the Perth Cultural Centre from 10am to 4pm, followed by the live music event ‘Free Parking’ which will also be held on Saturday April 18 from 5pm to 9pm, in the Art Gallery of WA staff car park.
Each of the remaining days of the Youth Week KickstART Festival has a specific theme including a Fremantle (Walyalup) Day, First Nations Day, Thinkers Day, Wellness Day, Crafters Day and Global Day.

“KickstART began as a one-day youth market in 2011 and has since grown to be a diverse, week-long platform for young people to experience a range of arts, entertainment, cultural and self-help events.
“It’s created by young people, for young people, with the Youth Week WA Planning Committee consisting of 27 enthusiastic and dedicated young people.
“The Youth Week WA 2020 theme is Koora, Mila, Yeyi: three Noongar words that refer to three different points of time, Koora meaning the past, Mila meaning the future, and Yeyi meaning the present.
“Youth Week WA 2020 celebrates Koora, Mila, Yeyi by paying attention to our histories and exploring our potential futures so we can understand what we should and can do right now.
“Being the 10th KickstART Festival, the year’s events emphasise Koora, Mila, Yeyi by celebrating past milestones and recognising emerging young artists and their valuable contributions to our future.”
