Youths charged with an attempted robbery in East Devonport

Police have charged two youths after an incident which occurred on a recreational ground in Thomas Street, East Devonport on 29 September about 3.40pm.

Two young males were playing soccer on the recreational ground when they were approached by the two youths who were carrying a small axe and knife at the time. The youths demanded property from the two young males who were able to escape without further incident. No one was injured.

The youths have been charged with a number of offences including stealing, possessing a dangerous article and receiving stolen property.

Detective Acting Sergeant Bobby Gray of Devonport CIB states that: “Incidents like this are not common and police treat incidents of this nature very seriously. This is a timely reminder that carrying a dangerous article in a public place is an offence.”
