Shellharbour City Council invites childcare centres, primary schools, and not-for-profit incorporated community groups to apply for the 2019/2020 Small Environmental Projects Fund.
Eligible groups can nominate themselves to participate in a range of environmental workshops designed for children in childcare and primary school.
The workshops include an interactive Creepy Creatures and Butterfly House workshop presented by Butterfly Skye’s, as well as an interactive Animal Show where Shoalhaven Zoo will showcase a range of native animals.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the workshops were a fun way for children to grow an appreciation for the natural world.
“Developing an early understanding of the natural environment not only helps promote the importance of living sustainably, but it can also spark joy and a fascination that will only grow as the young people themselves do,” Cr Marianne Saliba said.
The Small Environmental Projects Fund helps the community practice sustainable living and protect and promote the natural environment. These aims are objectives of Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2018-2028.
A total of $10,000 is available to fund these workshops. All workshops must be undertaken by successful applicants between January 2020 and 31 May 2020.
