145 infringements issued during South Brisbane traffic blitz

South Brisbane police have issued more than 145 infringement notices during a road safety blitz this past weekend across Brisbane’s south.

On Friday, officers conducted more than 2,000 random breath tests and 52 roadside drug tests as part of the local high-visibility traffic safety Operation Xray Moffatt.

11 people were charged for drink driving, seven people for drug driving, and 149 traffic infringement notices were issued across Upper Mount Gravatt, Kuraby and Tingalpa.

On Saturday, officers from Bayside Patrol Group and Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad conducted road safety activities as part of state high visibility road safety Operation Yankee Interpose, aimed at engaging with road users and enforcing the laws to deter dangerous driving behaviours.

A joint effort between Bayside Patrol Group and Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad resulted in 613 random breath tests being conducted.

A 36-year-old was served a Fail to Provide Certificate after he failed to provide a breath test on several occasions.

The man was charged with failure to provide a specimen and medium-range drink driving, allegedly returning a blood alcohol concentration of 0.238 per cent.

He is due to appear at Wynnum Magistrates Court on 28 July.

A 45-year-old Buccan man was given a notice to appear, after he was intercepted at Kuraby for a roadside drug test.

A saliva test provided a positive result for a relevant drug.

The man’s license was disqualified, and he was charged with unlicensed driving, and driving while a relevant drug is present.

He is due to appear at Richlands Magistrates Court on 28 August.

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

As part of Operation Interpose, police are bolstering high-visibility patrols right across the state, engaging with road users and enforcing the laws to deter dangerous driving behaviours.

Queenslanders can expect police – anywhere, anytime. However, enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours.

Driving under the influence, speeding, driving distracted or while fatigued, or not wearing a seatbelt puts your life – and the lives of others – at serious risk. These dangerous behaviours will not be tolerated.

Road safety starts with you.
