15,000 students complete their SACE

Not even a worldwide pandemic could stop more than 15,000 students from completing their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) in 2020.

A total of 15,119 students completed their SACE this year, the same proportion of students as 2019.

1,271 merit certificates were awarded to 1,018 students across the state.

This year saw a record 402 Aboriginal students completing their SACE, up from 393 last year, as well as a record number of students with an intellectual disability (with one or more modified subjects) – 323 compared with 296 in 2019.

Education Minister John Gardner congratulated the Class of 2020 on their achievements.

“I am delighted for each of the 15,119 students who have achieved their SACE in 2020,” said Minister Gardner.

“Despite all of the challenges that they have faced through the COVID-19 pandemic, students have focused on their learning and their determination and hard work has truly paid off.

“With the support of the SACE Board, schools and educators have been able to use the flexibility of the SACE to support their students with their learning, and I commend our educators on doing such an amazing job through a challenging year.

“It is pleasing to see record numbers of Aboriginal students and students with an intellectual disability complete their SACE this year and I congratulate them on their achievements.

“The Class of 2020 will be remembered as a remarkable group of students who showed the world that they had the resilience and tenacity to achieve success in their SACE.”

Professor Martin Westwell, Chief Executive of the SACE Board, paid tribute to schools and teachers for supporting students through a challenging year.

“As a community, the hallmark of our shared response to COVID-19 has been to continue the learning,” Professor Westwell said.

“We have worked together and held the line on the rigour of learning in the SACE and I am so proud that the SACE of 2020 will stand up against the SACE of any other year, past or future.”

Results are available online from 8.30 am at sace.sa.edu.au, and students are scheduled to receive hard copies of their results in the post over the coming days.
