$2 million in grants to give young Australians STEM opportunities

Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources

Applications to foster creativity and inquiry-based learning for young Australians are open as part of the Maker Projects – Community STEM Engagement grants.

The $2 million in grants is part of the Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme.

The funding will support projects that deliver hands-on science, engineering, technology and engineering (STEM) experiences for students and youth under 18 years of age.

We encourage project proposals that aim to increase participation by those aged under 18 who are traditionally under-represented in STEM, such as:

  • girls
  • people with disability
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • people from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds
  • people from rural, regional and remote areas.

Eligible organisations can apply for grants to help deliver hands-on, inquiry-based STEM projects that:

  • encourage practical skills, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking across STEM-related activities and events
  • build a foundation of knowledge and skills in scientific experimentation, design, technology and innovation
  • inspire students to pursue STEM disciplines in their study and work.

Successful applicants will receive between $20,000 and $100,000 over 2 years.

Applications close on 9 May 2022.
