Outstanding contributors to the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program have been recognised at the 20th anniversary awards.
The program provides community groups throughout the Swan and Canning rivers catchment with funding for a range of landcare activities, such as bushland restoration and turning drains into living streams that provide food and refuge for local wildlife.
The Swan Alcoa Landcare Program is a partnership between Alcoa; the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions; and Perth NRM, and since 1998 has provided $8.5 million to fund 1,351 projects and supported more than 40 community groups.
Congratulations to the following award recipients:
- Una Bell for the Dr Ian Colquhoun Lifetime Achievement Award;
- Chittering Landcare Centre for the Cam Clay Outstanding Partner Award;
- Zac Hardisty for the Budding Landcare Award; and
- Brian Doy for the Outstanding Advocate Award.
As noted by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson:
“Congratulations to the individuals and groups who have been recognised at the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program awards.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the broader volunteer community for the energy and local knowledge they bring to improving the health of Perth’s rivers and nearby recreational spaces.
“This program is a great example of a successful environmental partnership between the community, industry and government.”
