  • Duplication of 11.5km of Marmion Avenue from Butler to Yanchep completed
  • $23 million key McGowan Government election commitment delivered
  • Project complements major transport projects underway in northern suburbs including Yanchep Rail Extension and Mitchell Freeway Extension, supporting local jobs
  • A key McGowan Government election commitment has been delivered in Perth’s northern suburbs, with duplication works along 11.5km of Marmion Avenue from Butler to Yanchep now complete, providing a faster commute for drivers in the rapidly growing northern corridor of Perth.

The $23 million project was funded by the McGowan Government and delivered by the City of Wanneroo.

The single-lane stretch between Camborne Parkway in Butler and Yanchep Beach Road, Yanchep is now four lanes, catering for the swift population growth in the northern suburbs.

Member for MLA John Quigley and City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts joined Transport Minister Rita Saffioti to mark the completion of construction.

This project is part of a suite of major transport infrastructure projects underway in Perth’s northern suburbs to ease congestion, create local jobs and provide opportunities for local businesses.

Major projects include the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Mitchell Freeway Extension from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“I’m pleased our Government contributed the $23 million to make this job-creating, congestion-busting project a reality.

“This is just one of the major projects we have underway in the growing northern suburbs to help ease congestion on our roads.

“We have already started works on the Yanchep Rail Extension and later this year will begin work on the $215 million Mitchell Freeway Extension from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road.

“It’s major projects like these that will help our economy recover post COVID-19 whilst keeping Western Australians in jobs.”

As stated by Butler MLA John Quigley:

“This was one of my major election commitments and I am pleased to have delivered on this promise for the people of Butler.

“The completion of this project will ease congestion and mean less time for commuters on the road and more time for the important things, such as spending time with family and friends.

“This complements a number of major transport projects underway or planned that will benefit our local Butler community.

“I’d like to thank the City of Wanneroo for their great work in delivering this project with the McGowan Government.”
