The Cook Labor Government will invest $3 million to upgrade floodlighting at the Lark Hill Sportsplex in Port Kennedy to support participation in community sport.
Lark Hill Sportsplex is a major multi-purpose sporting hub in the City of Rockingham with its 26 hectares of playing space home to seven sporting clubs including rugby league, rugby union, softball, teeball, hockey, cricket, and soccer.
It features a synthetic hockey pitch, outdoor multi-use playing areas, and social facilities utilised by communities across the southern corridor.
The funding will help replace and upgrade ageing floodlighting to ensure teams can continue to train and play in the evenings.
As part of the Cook Labor Government’s commitment to delivering for the southern suburbs, an additional $1 million will also be invested to help deliver the new Lakelands Youth Park in the City of Mandurah.
The additional investment builds on a $500,000 State Election commitment from the Cook Labor Government in 2025 towards the project.
The new youth space will be located close to local schools and the Lakelands Shopping Centre and will feature a state-of-the-art skate park alongside dedicated chill-out spaces.
These investments are part of the Cook Labor Government’s PlayOn WA initiative to deliver 2,030 community sport and recreation infrastructure assets by 2030, helping ensure local facilities keep pace with growing communities and increasing participation.
Through PlayOn WA, the Cook Labor Government is helping more Western Australians get involved in sport and recreation, while supporting the clubs and volunteers that are at the heart of local communities.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

“This investment will upgrade floodlighting across the precinct, futureproofing the facility and providing better conditions for players and volunteers.
“The Cook Labor Government will always put WA first, and this investment is part of our commitment to delivering for WA families.”

“Many local sporting clubs use the Lark Hill Sportsplex, with participation in local sport only set to grow as our community grows.
“These upgrades will ensure the facilities can continue to be used in the evenings, providing more opportunities for local teams to train and stay active.”
