The Crisafulli Government is backing women across Queensland with practical initiatives to unlock women’s economic security through the Empowering Queensland Women Grants.
Almost $280,000 has been invested across 30 community organisations through Round 2 of the program, with a maximum of $10,000 available per recipient.
The funding supports community-led organisations delivering projects directly linked to financial literacy, skills and training, and women’s leadership opportunities.
During a decade of decline, the former Labor government failed to invest in women’s economic security and instead developed a track record of closing maternity wards and allowing the CFMEU to run riot and intimidate women in the workplace.
Among the community-led programs supported through Empowering Queensland Women’s Round 2 grants are:
- Girls Torque (Australian Women’s Motoring Network) will deliver practical workshops on budgeting, finance, and managing costs of car ownership in regional areas including Charters Towers, Richmond, Hughenden, Cloncurry, Croydon, and Georgetown.
- Bori Muy in the Far North will equip Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women with job-readiness skills, financial literacy, leadership capabilities, and confidence to transition into employment or training or further education.
- Women’s Legal Service Queensland will host sessions on understanding personal finances and managing debt to improve economic stability for in Ipswich, Toowoomba, Roma, Kingaroy, Gympie, and Emerald.
- Salute For Service Australia will support female veterans and family members in Brisbane with targeted workshops covering budgeting, saving, superannuation, and pathways to employment.
- Surfers Paradise Anglican Crisis Care will support homeless women on the Gold Coast by providing mentoring and training in financial management, interview preparation and professional skills.
Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security Fiona Simpson said the Crisafulli Government was committed to helping more women build financial confidence, develop employment skills, and strengthen economic security.
“The Empowering Queensland Women grants support community-led programs which help women to build financial capability, develop new skills, and connect with employment opportunities,” Minister Simpson said.
“The Round 2 recipients will deliver projects which support a wide range of women. We recognise that women face differing challenges depending on where they live or their personal circumstances or their cultural background – but these supported initiatives aim to help them overcome barriers to economic participation.
“Together with our $20 million Women’s Career Grants and the expanded Jobs Academy program, the Crisafulli Government is delivering better economic outcomes and real financial security for women and girls across Queensland.”
Ipswich-based Fossung Multicultural and Education Services will use their EQW grant to deliver structured workshops covering digital skills, employment readiness, financial capability as well as education/career pathways.
“This funding will make a real difference for multicultural women in Ipswich by giving them practical skills, confidence and pathways to employment,” program coordinator Precious Agwen said.
“Through our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Women’s Digital Skills and Employment Pathways Program, we will empower women with practical digital, employment and financial skills that support greater economic independence.
“We also hope to create lasting benefits for families by equipping mothers to better support their children’s education and future career aspirations.
“We are grateful to the Queensland Government for investing in community-led initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for women and their families.”
