$350 reward announced to help solve Mulgrave armed robbery

Armed Crime Squad detectives are announcing a $350,000 reward in relation to an armed robbery on a security van in Mulgrave in 2018.

A security van was parked outside a pizza shop whilst two guards were inside the shopping centre collecting cash on 14 February.

The security guards returned to the cash truck and were approached by a man armed with a firearm about 8.15am.

The offender pointed the firearm at the guards and made demands for the guards to hand over the satchels filled with an amount of cash.

The guards complied and the offender took the satchels before fleeing to the underground carpark where he got on a motorbike and rode off towards Police Road.

Footage which was originally released at the time of the offence is being re-released in the hope someone has information that can help investigators solve this crime.

The offender was described as approximately 175cm tall, with a stocky build wearing a black and blue motor bike helmet, motorcycle type jacket, black motor bike pants, gloves and shoes.

After leaving the shopping centre at Police Road, he then turned right to travel south on Brady Road.

The black motorbike was last seen travelling near the intersection of Stud Road and Brady Road a short time after the armed robbery.

The two security guards, aged 61 and 31 at the time of the offence, were not physically injured.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from Armed Crime Squad said, police are hoping the reward will assist in solving this crime.

“We are confident someone out there knows who did this and we are appealing for those people to contact us,” he said.

Detective Inspector Thomas said the victims were at work, performing their role and they had the right to feel safe doing so. This was in a very public place and we have concerns for this type of offending.

“We are hopeful that given the time that has passed, circumstances may have changed, and someone may now be in a position to come forward and provide that crucial piece of information to us so that we can solve this crime,” he said.

A reward of up to $350,000 will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting and attempted armed robbery.

In appropriate cases, the Director of Public Prosecutions may consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.

Any payment of a reward will be subject to the applicant signing a deed of confidentiality prior to payment.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
