A strong demand for workers across northern Tasmania is the driving force for a Morrison
Government Jobs Fair to be held in Burnie on Tuesday 30 November.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, the Hon Stuart Robert MP,
said the Jobs Fair would allow employers and employment service providers to speak directly with job seekers about opportunities available and the skills needed for those jobs.
‘The Morrison Government is committed to connecting job seekers with businesses looking to hire, as
we continue our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,’ Minister Robert said.
‘Creating jobs and boosting the skills of Australians to help them get back into work is at the heart of
our Economic Recovery Plan.
‘There will be hundreds of jobs on offer at the fair, including in health care and social assistance,
agriculture, and aged care, which will play a key role in securing our future economic prosperity.’
Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, the Hon Luke Howarth MP, said certain
sectors of the economy are experiencing a strong demand for workers, and northern Tasmania is no
exception.
‘We know there is a real need to fill vacancies across the Australian labour market, which is why the
Burnie Jobs Fair is so important,’ Assistant Minister Howarth said.
‘We encourage job seekers to attend the Jobs Fair as they will hear first-hand from employers about
what they look for when hiring. This fair will also give job seekers the opportunity to meet people and
network.’
Federal Member for Braddon, Gavin Pearce MP, said if you are a job seeker in the region, there’s
never been a better time to shape your future.
“Everywhere I go, right across the North-West, West Coast and King Island, businesses are upbeat
about the future, and upbeat businesses create jobs,” Mr Pearce said.
“Whether you are 18 or 68, if you are looking at getting into the job market, reskilling or upskilling,
come along tomorrow and speak directly with employers and employment service providers about the
opportunities available and the skills needed to get into the job of your dreams.”
“I’m determined to remove any barriers that prevent job seekers from easily and seamlessly linking
with employment opportunities. A major part of that has been rolling out the new Burnie Campus of
UTAS, and the higher education study hubs in Zeehan and Smithton. A good job starts with a good
education, and these higher education centres fill the voids that have historically existed.”
“Jobs Fairs are another important part of linking jobs to job seekers. We had one in Devonport earlier
this year and now we have nearly 450 jobs on offer tomorrow in Burnie. I say to every job seeker in
the region, grab the opportunity.”
‘The Morrison Government has a range of measures in place under the umbrella of a Local Jobs
Plan, which will give job seekers in northern Tasmania the best chance of finding suitable
employment.’
The Burnie Jobs Fair will take place at Burnie Arts and Function Centre, 77-79 Wilmot Street, Burnie
on Tuesday 30 November. It is free with sessions from 9.30am to midday and 12.45pm to 3pm.
