4WD driver charged after two women die in Peakhurst crash

A man will face court on manslaughter charges tomorrow after two women lost their lives in a collision between an allegedly stolen 4WD and sedan in Sydney’s south.

The 21-year-old man is the alleged driver of a stolen Landcruiser involved in a crash with a Honda Jazz on Henry Lawson Drive, Peakhurst, shortly before 8pm (Tuesday 12 March 2019).

Passing motorists stopped and assisted those involved; however, the driver of the Jazz, a 66-year-old woman from Runaway Bay in Queensland, and a 62-year-old Padstow Heights woman seated behind her, were critically injured and died at the scene.

The front-seat passenger, a 58-year-old Padstow Heights man, and a 62-year-old woman, also from Runaway Bay, seated in the back seat, were taken to St George Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

Officers from Crash Investigation Unit charged the 21-year-old Revesby man with a number of offences including manslaughter (x2), aggravated dangerous driving causing death (x2), aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm (x2), take and drive conveyance, high range PCA, fail to stop and render assistance after impact causing death (x2) and consume alcohol while driving.

He was refused police bail and will appear in Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 14 March 2019).
