New and existing small businesses in Corangamite Shire can get a boost with up to $5,000 in Council funding.
The Small Business Assistance Program (SBAP) support new projects that will have a positive impact for the business and wider Shire economy.
Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the program aimed to encourage new and existing businesses to innovate, adapt or diversify.
“The goal is to stimulate growth and supporting our residents’ livelihoods,” Cr Gstrein said.
“Now we are facing energy crisis, inflation and the possibility of recession so it’s fitting for Council to take active steps to support our community.
“Businesses with 20 or fewer full-time equivalent staff can apply for dollar-for-dollar funding to improve, reinvest or update how they do business.
“It’s all about encouraging innovation, adaptation or diversification to overcome challenges and build a prosperous future.”
Some examples of projects that could be considered include:
- new website/point of sale software
- investment in new technology
- new equipment to allow the business to expand
- upgrades to the inside of a building
- creation of new spaces to allow a business to expand
- new infrastructure
- electronic vehicle charging stations
- energy efficiency upgrades (e.g. solar panels)
Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson said priority will be given to projects that look at new ways to do business, innovate, adapt and diversify.
“The SBAP is a way for Council to encourage operators to expand, grow and invest back in their business.
In the past the grants have shown they contribute a wider economic benefit by employing local suppliers to complete projects.
“Before you submit your application, I strongly encourage you to speak with Council officers for personalised advice to maximise your chance of success.”
Businesses planning to re-locate to the Shire within three months of applying for the grant may also be eligible.
Applications are now open and can be made here until 5 pm, Monday 15 August. Recipients will have until 31 May 2023 to complete their project.
