600+ community groups to share in $16 million in grants

Hundreds of community groups will receive a share of $16 million under the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

The grants, which were awarded to 634 community organisations, will go towards a variety of projects including dental equipment, computers and satellite internet, and a coffee trailer.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) has approved more than 67,800 funding applications and distributed more than $1.158 billion in community grants since it was established in 1994.

A charity supporting young women with breast cancer, a wheelchair rugby league team, homelessness services and an Indigenous corporation helping victims of domestic violence have all received grants of $35,000 from the latest round 118.

Some of the grants include:

  • Caloundra environment group Night Eyes Water and Landcare Inc. received $35,000 to buy a new boat which will be used to collect rubbish and pollutants from Pumicestone Passage, Pelican Waters and Golden Beach.
  • Burleigh’s 3I’s – Imagination, Innovation and Inclusiveness Ltd has received $31,000 to install a trampoline for people with a disability.
  • Torres Strait Aged Care Association Inc. received $12,000 for a stove, chairs and IT equipment to support a meals on wheels service for seniors.
  • Family Emergency Accommodation Townsville Inc. will receive $34,945 towards providing well-appointed and furnished accommodation for homeless families.

For those Queensland not-for-profit organisations that missed out or would like to apply for a grant, round 120 is now open.
