82 graduate nurses and midwives begin careers in the Territory

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is continuing to attract health professionals to work in the NT with 82 graduate nurses and midwives beginning their careers in the Northern Territory.

The nurses have commenced their orientation across Territory hospitals, which includes essential training and delivering safe and high quality patient care in preparation for their transition into employment.

From the intake of 82 nurses and midwives, 51 will be commence at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals, 26 at Alice Springs Hospital and five at Katherine Hospital.

In addition, the final intake for last year’s NT Health Graduate Nursing and Midwifery program was increased to commence 29 extra nurses and midwives at the end of 2023 across Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals.

The Territory Government continues to look at innovative ways to attract health professionals to work in the NT.

For the first time, this year the application portal for the NT Health Graduate Nursing and Midwifery program will remain open for ongoing recruitment.

This innovative approach to recruitment aims to increase the Territory’s nursing and midwifery workforce and means that applicants do not have to wait for a cohort intake or roles to be advertised.

A second intake of graduate nurses and midwives is expected to take place in a few months.

NT Health provides up to 300 graduate nursing and midwifery positions each year across the Territory.
