  • Eligible families to receive $250 for every secondary student and $150 for every primary and Kindergarten student to help cover school-related costs
  • Parents claiming through the ServiceWA app to receive their payment in around a week

Claims for a third round of the 2026 WA Student Assistance Payment open tomorrow, giving Western Australian parents and carers of school children access to hundreds of dollars in cost-of-living relief to help cover school expenses.

Payments through this $90 million program are available to eligible students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who are enrolled at a WA public school, non-government school or registered for home education. Parents and carers have until Friday 25 September 2026 to submit their claim.

Secondary students are eligible for payments of $250 each, while Kindergarten and primary school students will receive $150 each to help cover school-related costs, including books, IT equipment, sport and music fees, stationery, school shoes, uniforms, excursions and camps.

The fastest and most convenient way to claim is through the ServiceWA app, with alternative claim methods available via the Department of Education website , including paper forms.

Additional support will be available across regional WA communities to help families claim the payment, including targeted outreach and assistance.

Building on the success of last year’s trial, the number of Digital Assist Kiosks has been expanded to more than 20 locations across metropolitan and regional WA, providing in-person support to help families submit their claims for both the WA Student Assistance Payment and the one-off $100 Fuel Support Payment.

Claims will be validated through each student’s unique WA Student Number (WASN), which can be found on school reports, NAPLAN results or school-issued SmartRider cards.

Parents or carers who do not know their child’s WASN, including families with children starting Kindergarten or pre-primary this year, are encouraged to contact their school who can provide them with this information.

Last year, the initiative delivered a record 424,005 payments to assist WA parents and carers, which was an almost 8 per cent increase compared to the 2025 program. This included a significant boost in the number of claims paid for students in regional and remote areas.

The WA Student Assistance Payment forms part of more than $4 billion in additional cost-of-living support for households and small businesses delivered by the State Labor Government since 2017.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“My government is committed to easing cost-of-living pressures for Western Australians.

“That’s why the WA Student Assistance Payment is putting money back into the pockets of families with school kids.

“The start of a new school term can bring extra costs for families, and this payment gives parents and carers greater flexibility to cover those expenses.

“I encourage all eligible families to make a claim to ensure their children have what they need to thrive at school.”

As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:

“School’s back, and as a mother of three daughters, I know that support with school-related expenses can go a long way.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to participate fully in school, and the WA Student Assistance Payment will help families meet the everyday costs that come with learning.

“Whether it’s buying uniforms, stationery or other school essentials, the WA Student Assistance Payment helps cut costs so students can focus on their education and reaching their full potential.

“We’ve seen the difference this payment can make, and this year we have expanded assistance to make claiming easier and help as many eligible families as possible access this important cost-of-living support.”
