A decade of QPS social media: Thanks a million for connecting with us

As we reach the significant milestone of hitting 1 million ‘Likes’ on Facebook, the Queensland Police Service is taking a look back on our social media journey – the highs, the lows and the laughs.

Disaster Summer of 2010-2011: Staying informed when Queensland needed it most

The summer of 2010-2011 saw Queenslanders face wide-spread devastation caused by a series of significant flooding events and Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasi.

At this point in time, we had only recently joined Facebook and Twitter and were still figuring out the best way to use our shiny new communication platforms from a police perspective.

As the floods swept across Queensland, social media became a valuable tool for us to provide important information to the public in real-time.

Finding our voice

Following on from the disaster season, we started to find our voice on our social channels and used these platforms to connect more with the public.

We can admit, our content wasn’t always perfect…

However, with each post we have formed a closer connection with people from across the globe, and had a few laughs along the way.

Over the past 10 years, we have used our social channels to promote the good work of the QPS, thank the community for their assistance into solving crimes and helping investigators, and share heart-breaking news.

Every so often we’ve shared stories outside the usual realm of police work.

A decade down the track

Dance challenges, dad jokes, typos and Nickelback-lash – our Facebook journey has been a wild one.

Since joining Facebook a little over 10 years ago, social media has given us the ability to develop unique connections with people across the globe.

While we’re not really sure what the future will hold in the world of social media advancements, we will continue to inform, educate and connect with you all across our platforms.

From the Queensland Police Service to you, thanks a million for connecting with us.
