Designing the University’s future in the city of Hobart was the task of participants on Day 2 of the University’s Appreciative Inquiry summit (Thursday, 28 November).
After spending Day 1 discovering what was important to the University’s extended community – including students, staff, business and government representatives – and dreaming of the future CBD campus, today participants were asked to think creatively about how the new Southern campus should look and feel.
Using the themes of transport, wandering and movement, natural environment, inclusiveness, civic centre, the Domain, STEM and prosperity and activation, participants created bold propositions about how each should be represented, and some guiding principles for designing a university of and for the city.
In closing the summit, Vice-Chancellor Professor Rufus Black thanked participants for their commitment and honesty throughout the process, and said he was grateful for the valuable feedback.
“None of what we have imagined here is beyond the possible,” he said.
“We can only do the things we want to do if we work together consistently over a long period of time.
“When we converge on the things we can agree about, it’s an enormously powerful force for creating a different city and University.”
