Born into RSPCA South Australia’s care, baby Ccino certainly didn’t have the easiest start to life.
His mother Nara was heavily pregnant and severely underweight when surrendered to RSPCA alongside four other malnourished horses in May 2017.
Thankfully, despite her poor condition and difficult circumstances, Nara was able to give birth to a healthy Ccino four months later.
Young Ccino was placed into foster care after his mother Nara was successfully adopted out. He lucked out with foster carer Sarah, a true horse lover and one of Ccino’s biggest fans.
“This little guy was truly a delight to handle. He was very calm to catch, halter up in the paddock, lead and groom,” Sarah recalls.
She gave Ccino his unusual name because of the foal’s rich cappuccino colour – an element of his startling good looks that still attracts compliments now!
A new home for this cheeky horse
After close to a year of foster care with Sarah, Ccino was ready to find his forever home – and that’s when new mum, Eleanor came into his life.
A game changer for Eleanor, Ccino has improved his new mum’s life since becoming a part of the family. Bringing nothing but joy with his spunky, unique personality, Ccino has been the sweetest horse since the day he was bought home.
“He’s grown a lot since I adopted him and he’s been such a sweet little man to work with so far,” Eleanor tells us.
“He calls out and comes over to the gate when I get out of the car. He is extremely loving – and has a bit of a cheeky streak!”
With two best horse friends in the paddock with him, Ccino has even won over the hearts of his fur-buddies too, with his usually food-territorial mare buddies happily sharing their hay with him.
Ccino’s made a particular bond with his paddock mate, Mitchie, and the two now spend much of their time together.
Fun adventures ahead for young Ccino
Now two years old, Ccino is just starting some basic training with Eleanor, ahead of starting his career as a riding horse from age three.
“He’s a relaxed and quick learner, which has been great. Ccino continually shows how willing and intelligent he is, the further into training we go,” Eleanor says.
“He’s extremely cheeky but also very loving. He’s captured everyone’s hearts! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to make him a part of our family.”
Eleanor urged all South Aussies to consider the adoption option when looking for a new fur-friend.
“Your perfect match might just be waiting out there like Ccino was for me, and could be the absolute gem you are looking for. I can safely say the adoption journey has been an extremely rewarding one so far,” she says.
