Acing sport at Basil Oval

Cricket, tennis and basketball will be front and centre at Basil Oval later this year, when we unveil new cricket practice wickets and a multi-court with tennis hit up wall and basketball ring.

The new four-lane synthetic cricket practice wicket replaces nets at the Malvern East location that are aged and beyond repair. Designed in close collaboration with the St. James Malvern Valley and East Malvern Tooronga cricket clubs, the new practice wickets will be a welcome addition to their player training program.

Speaking on behalf of the St James Malvern Cricket Club, Club Secretary David Kemp said, “We’re all very excited to have the nets replaced with newer, safer and more fit for purpose facilities.”

Taking advantage of the redevelopment project, we’re also increasing the sport offerings at the oval by building a new multi-court next to nets, where the community can come and enjoy a spot of tennis on the hit-up wall or throw down a few hoops at the basketball ring.

Works are due to start by the end of May and the facilities set to open in time for a new season of cricket practice later this year.
