ACSC Annual Cyber Threat report 2020-21

Australian Cyber Security Centre

This is the ACSC’s second annual threat report and was produced in collaboration with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

The Annual Cyber Threat Report contains an overview of the key cyber threats affecting Australia and provides vital advice on how all Australians and Australian organisations can help protect themselves online.

Head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre, Ms Abigail Bradshaw CSC, said malicious cyber actors are actively targeting Australians.

“Every Australian individual, business and organisation needs to be aware of the evolving cyber threat environment and take the necessary steps to defend against those threats,” Ms Bradshaw said.

“We received over 67,500 cybercrime reports, or around one every eight minutes, which is an indication of how prevalent cyber threats and cybercriminals are.

“I encourage every Australian to read our Annual Cyber Threat Report to understand these cyber threats, and learn how to protect yourselves, your families and your businesses online,” Ms Bradshaw said.

The ACSC urges all Australian individuals and organisations to report cybercrime and cyber incidents to ReportCyber.

Every cybercrime report helps not only the victim, but also goes to help the ACSC develop knowledge of the cyber threat picture and enables the ACSC to produce the best possible advice for all Australians.
