Additonal charges have been laid against three men as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of a south-west Sydney-based alleged criminal syndicate supplying prohibited drugs to the state’s Central West.
In February 2019, detectives attached to Western Region established Strike Force Pinnacle to investigate an ongoing large-scale drug supply network operating from Wellington, NSW.
Early inquiries revealed the syndicate was allegedly sourcing prohibited drugs – mainly methylamphetamine (ice), but also cocaine and heroin – from Sydney, and distributing them to regional towns across NSW.
Subsequently, in January 2020, detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Laverick to investigate the syndicate’s links in Sydney.
On Wednesday 27 May 2020, six men were charged by Strike Force Laverick detectives, as part of an operation that also saw 12 people charged in Wellington under Strike Force Pinnacle.
Following further inquiries, Strike Force Laverick detectives attended a correctional facility at Silverwater on Wednesday (1 July 2020) and yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2020), where they arrested three men.
A 48-year-old man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
A 45-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity) and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
The two men faced Burwood Local Court yesterday, where they were formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 26 August 2020.
A 46-year-old man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), possess prohibited drug, possess unauthorised pistol and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
He was remanded in custody to face Burwood Local Court today (Friday 3 July 2020).
Investigations under Strike Force Laverick are continuing.
