The new school crossing supervisors will strengthen road safety for children travelling to and from school in NSW.
The new recruitment is part of the NSW Government’s $18.5 million goal to appoint 300 new school crossing supervisors in the next three years.
The new school crossing supervisors will help 80 schools in NSW and join the team of 1200 supervisors across the state.
The school crossing supervisors are part of a suite of measures designed to ensure children are safe getting to and from school.
Other safety measures in place for schools include:
- reduced speed limits in school zones
- high visibility safety signs
- dragon teeth road markings
- flashing lights to alert drivers when entering school zones.
As children return to school, all motorists are reminded to watch their speed limit and slow down in school zones.
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said road safety at NSW schools is a joint effort for all road users.
“Extra crossing supervisors are an important addition at school crossings helping keep some of our youngest learners safe on their way to and from school,” Ms Mitchell said.
Drivers are reminded to download the Speed Adviser App which alerts drivers when they enter active school zones.
