ADF ARRTS PROGRAM Strengthens Resilience

ALONGSIDE ACT Emergency ServiceS

ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Arts for Recovery, Resilience, Training and Skills (ARRTS) Program have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU will provide an ongoing arrangement that allows ACT first responders to increase their resilience through the innovative ADF ARRTS Program.

Commander Joint Health, Rear Admiral Sarah Sharkey said the ADF and the ESA share a strong bond.

“The signing of the MOU formalises the trial which has been in place with the ESA for the past four ADF ARRTS Programs,” Rear Admiral Sharkey said.

“It enables ACT ESA personnel to continue to participate in the Program, aiding in their recovery, building resilience, and providing new skills.”

Head of ADF ARRTS, Brigadier Wayne Goodman said the Program is offered bi-annually, May and November, in a non-rank and non-uniform environment at the University of Canberra’s Inspire Centre.

“Participants on this unique four-week program are mentored by civilian experts in one of three creative art streams: music, creative writing and visual arts,” Brigadier Goodman said.

“Since May 2015, the Program has had 221 participants. Members from the Navy, Army and Air Force travel across Australia to join the ARRTS Program.”

ACT Emergency Services Agency Commissioner Georgeina Whelan said she looked forward to the continuation of their association with the ADF ARRTS Program, and the positive outcomes it gives the agency’s people.
