Agriculture Victoria commences recovery work

Agriculture Victoria’s focus is turning from immediate bushfire relief activities to short, medium and long-term recovery for farmers affected by fires in North East Victoria.

Over the past 37 days, Agriculture Victoria has made contact with 407 property owners across the fire affected areas in the North East. During these interactions, we have provided information about the support services available and provided referrals. Producers have also shared information about their loss and damage and told us about the technical information or advice they need to recover, on issues such as feeding livestock and looking after farm dam water quality.

Our Agriculture Recovery Manager is using the information we received from farmers to develop and deliver a suite of recovery services for famers and other stakeholders affected by the recent fires to ensure they have the technical agricultural information and access to support services to help them make sound decisions.

Recovery services include pasture walks, feed budgeting and water planning workshops, continuing to assist farmers to access other services, as well as participating in community meetings. Information about these activities and other resources will be promoted on social media and the Agriculture Victoria website.

Farmers are encouraged to make contact with Agriculture Victoria at the Corryong drop-in centre, where they can get information about the recovery program and other support services. The Corryong drop in centre, located at the neighbourhood house, is open Monday to Friday 10.30 am-3.30 pm. They can also contact Agriculture Victoria for Recovery Support on 136 186 during business hours.

With the focus moving to recovery, the Wodonga Agricultural relief incident team has largely handed over to our recovery specialists to continue working with the community.
