After years of hard work and dedication 82 students from La Trobe’s Albury-Wodonga campus have graduated in a ceremony at The Cube in Wodonga on Tuesday.
The ceremony saw the graduands celebrate their completion of a wide range of courses in areas including Biomedical Science (Medical), Nursing, Teaching, Business, Arts, Social Work and Psychology.
Three PhD candidates are among the cohort, as well as dozens who have completed Bachelor and Master Degrees. A further 30 (including two PhD) students will graduate in absentia.
La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO said he was thrilled to see Albury-Wodonga students marking this major milestone.
“Our students have been through so much in recent years, they should be very proud of themselves for persevering, and gaining the skills and experience needed to be successful in the workforce,” Professor Dewar said.
“The majority of students graduating today will stay in regional communities to live and work, helping to address skills shortages and contributing to thriving regional cities like Albury-Wodonga.”
Head of Campus, Dr Guinever Threlkeld, said she was delighted to see students able to celebrate their achievements with family and friends.
“We are so proud of these students and applaud their dedication over the last few difficult years,” Dr Threlkeld said.
“We have a beautiful campus here in Albury-Wodonga, and many opportunities for students to explore their options for employment or further study under the guidance of our world-class researchers.
“Our students can contribute to important research, learn from experienced industry-based mentors and gain important skills to help them succeed in their future careers,” Dr Threlkeld said.
Many of those graduating have already gained employment in areas like social work, nursing, business and psychology.
This year’s graduands also include the first cohort of Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical) students who have recently commenced the Doctor of Medicine (Rural Pathway) through La Trobe’s partnership with University of Melbourne in Shepparton.
In addition to those graduating on Tuesday, fellow La Trobe students will graduate at ceremonies in Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton over the coming weeks.
