Cricket Victoria and Cricket Albury Wodonga have received the keys to the new $1.5 million Albury Wodonga Regional Cricket Hub.
The new facility, featuring four pitches, unisex changerooms and office space, is the first cross border cricket facility in the country.
Cr Graeme Simpfendorfer said it was an amazing facility that was the by-product of the Two Cities, One Community partnership with Albury.
“This facility is great for Albury Wodonga as well as North East Victoria and Southern NSW,” he said.
“It’s very exciting times for Cricket Victoria and Cricket NSW and the Two Cities, One Community partnership.
“This sets the platform for working with Albury on other facilities and projects in the future.”
Cricket Victoria’s Adam Renfrey said the project had been a long time in the planning but would provide a great facility for local and junior cricketers.
“This venue is truly about growing participation,” he said.
“It’s about providing the right access and the best training environment locally without families having to travel to the bigger cities.
“It’s about providing performance pathways locally and having to reduce travel times.”
Cricket Albury Wodonga Chairman Michael Erdeljac said today was an exciting day for the local competition.
“It’s been a long journey to get where we are,” he said.
“With this facility here plus Lavington, what we have in Albury Wodonga is absolutely amazing.
“People don’t have to travel to Melbourne. This is in Albury Wodonga and this is for us.”
The new facility is located at Birallee Park on Marshall St in Wodonga.
