Alcohol and drug seizure at Wadeye

Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of drugs and liquor bound for the remote community of Wadeye over the weekend.

Local members were given information of a person flying to the community on 12 January 2024, potentially carrying drugs.

Police attended Wadeye Airport and conducted a search on the suspected plane, locating two balloons of drugs and 1L of rum.

The suspected drugs and liquor were seized.

Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said “Attempting to supply drugs and alcohol to a community that is already under stress in extremely saddening.

“We have seen time and time again; the effect drugs and alcohol have. We will not stop our efforts to reduce supply into the community.”

A 38-year-old woman has been served a notice to appear in court for a later date.
