Alcohol Seizure – Remote Barkly Region Community

Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of alcohol destined for remote communities in the Barkly region earlier this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, police received intel of vehicles allegedly transporting a quantity of alcohol into the Northern Territory from Queensland.

Police identified and intercepted two vehicles travelling together near a remote Barkly region community.

A subsequent search of the vehicles discovered over 15 litres of alcohol.

The four male and three female offenders were cautioned, and the alcohol was seized

The seized alcohol was destroyed by police.

Acting Superintendent Katie Hatzismalis said, “As frontline workers, we witness and experience the devastating impacts of alcohol related harm in the Northern Territory.

“Police will continue to work with our cross-border colleagues to proactively target those who wish to cause harm in our community.”
