Alcohol seizure – Roper Gulf

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol and issued multiple infringements after an operation targeting illicit supply in the Roper Gulf Region this week.

Throughout the week of 14 August 2023, officers conducted proactive patrols along the Central Arnhem Highway where over 180 litres of alcohol was seized from multiple vehicles.

The highway provides access into the remote communities of Barunga, Beswick and Manyallaluk.

Five infringements were issued to drivers for possessing alcohol without a permit and a 28-year-old female was served a summons to appear in court for medium range drink driving and other traffic related offences.

Acting Senior Sergeant Thomas Chalk said “It’s disappointing see individuals continue to flaunt the rules around secondary supply and possessing alcohol in restricted areas.

“Northern Territory Police are on the frontlines of alcohol related harm and know too well the devastating impact the supply of alcohol has into vulnerable remote communities.

“Alcohol remains a catalyst for domestic and family violence and police will do everything they can to disrupt its impact in the community.

“Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs into our communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
