Allan Government must axe its unfair Health Tax

Liberal Party Victoria

Treasurer Tim Pallas’ letter to Federal Labor Health Minister Mark Butler is nothing more than an attempt by the Allan Government to deflect attention from its unfair Health Tax.

In his letter, Treasurer Pallas accuses the Federal Labor Government of cutting health funding to Victoria and accuses Minister Butler of misleading Victorians over the Allan Government’s Health Tax.

This comes after Minister Butler urged the Allan Government to reconsider its unfair Health Tax, warning that investments in Medicare “will be lost to increased payroll tax obligations by general practices”.

Health industry experts have warned this will put many practices out of business andwill increase the cost of seeing a doctor by almost 30 per cent.

Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “Victorians already doing it tough during a cost-of-living crisis don’t need confected outage by the Treasurer to try to distract from his unfair tax.

“Instead, he should listen to his federal and state Labor counterparts and simply axe the Health Tax now.

“After introducing 53 new or increased taxes and charges since coming to office, Labor must also commit to no more taxes in the upcoming State Budget.”
