Animal welfare hotline established to assist flood-hit racing participants

Racing participants in flood affected areas can access assistance from Queensland’s racing integrity body, Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has announced.

Mr Hinchliffe said the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) had established a hotline to assist participants in caring for their animals.

“Some racing participants in flood-impacted areas are facing issues gaining access to their animals, treating injured animals and caring for their basic needs,” he said.

“The welfare of the animals has to come first, and that’s where QRIC can help.

“The Commission is reaching out to people who may be finding it difficult to care for their racing animals at this time.

“If you need help, call the hotline and talk to QRIC about getting appropriate assistance.

“QRIC can help participants connect with local veterinarian services and provide information about local agencies that may be able to assist.

“These are challenging circumstances but assistance is available and racing participants shouldn’t hesitate to ask for help when they need it.”
